Blackened by the Night
I closed my eyes to think of you
Tried to picture that moment when my heart flew
Stared straight into those skies of blue.
Thought my only love was you.
But now I sit here
In this solitary room
Cuz I'm trapped in here
Always
By memories of you
I try to open my eyes
Try to capture the light
But all around me are my memories
Blackened by the nights
It's getting harder all the time
Running against the wind
When all you have are drowning thoughts
My hopes are getting dim
But now I sit here
In this solitary room
Cuz I'm trapped in here
Always
By memories of you
I try to open my eyes
Try to capture the light
But all around me are my memories
Blackened by the nights
And it's the same old song
On and on again
Maybe we can be together
And make this nightmare end
So baby take my hand
We'll soar into the sky
So girl just hold me tight
We'll make it through the night
If we can just try to love one another
We just might be all right
But now I sit here
In this solitary room
Cuz I'm trapped in here
By memories of you
Maybe one day I'll get free and girl,
I'll see what I was missing
But till then I'm stuck on you yeah
Don't pass me by
Can't you see I need you baby, no one else will do.
It's so hard.
Yeah it's so hard
To be in love with you,
Grounded hopes
He was always so beautiful. A brilliant pearl like smile and eyes that shone like diamonds. He was her private getaway, a beautiful oasis in the wasteland that was her life. Like the gleaming sun, his brilliance was blinding.
She would see him at school, but she wouldn't dare to talk to him. He was only just out of reach, only a wingspan away, and yet he seemed to be an ocean, or even a world away from her. He was the most popular person at school, but she wasn't even anything special. She didn't stand a chance, and yet she adored him still.
Until that fateful day, love was nothing more then a lie that had been preached. But when their eyes first met, her heart skipped a beat. He was the most radiant being, more beautiful then anything she had ever seen. But that was then, and this was now. Her heart had fallen into a black abyss.
To give something then take it away is truly the worst punishment she thought to herself as she gazed upon her idol. Days passed, fall. turned to winter. As she sat in her room, watching snow melt into spring, she felt the painful burden of her heart lift. Perhaps there was hope. Maybe it was also a beautiful mind that made a beautiful person.
A stammer in her step and her voice, she met him in the schoolyard, and asked him if he would go out with her. With a sad smile and a pat on the head, he nodded no. She ran, not bothering to look back, a trail of tears left behind to sparkle like tiny crystals scattered to the breeze.
And so she lay on her bed, nothing ahead but an empty ceiling. Tear still ran from her eyes as she wondered what could have been. Why did she have to be so stupid? She sniffled as she dried her eyes, life wasn't fair, and it was something that would have to be dealt with. She sat up, leaning against her bedroom wall. Her eyes were still red and swollen as she stared out a window blindly. The sun rose and set, and she watched, eyes glazed, dulled and listless.
So many moments wasted. How long had she reached for the impossible? Her heart throbbed as anguish of rejection turned to longing to turn back the clock. How much time had been spent in idle worship? She sighed as the window became a scene of a past, friends long gone passed, and opportunities ignored vanished in the breezes that rustled the trees. She sighed; to let go was to be human. To live and learn, to make mistakes, pain is what made us humans. She closed her eyes as a peaceful sleep overcame despair. Maybe the next day would be better.
Reflection
This song assignment made me write in a style that wasn't like english (in a good way). It forced me to write with music in mind, rather then trying to fit descriptions and such into the paper. The assignment was interesting, and made us spend a lot of time doing actual music work rather then english. In a good way.
